At the Apple Orchard

Saturday, 10 a.m.

[Apple Orchard]On Saturday morning, Louise Hollis drives her two kids out to the countryside to pick apples. She likes the Salgado Family Orchard, because the people are so friendly.

Louise : Here we are, kids.
Jim : And here's the sunshine, finally.
Becky : Yeah. Where do we get the baskets for picking, mom?

Louise leads them to the main path through the orchard, where someone is waiting to hand them baskets and tell them what the varieties of apples are.

Mrs. Salgado : Good morning! Have you been here before?
Louise : We sure have. We are hoping to pick Cortlands, because they're so good for pie.
Mrs. Salgado : (pointing) Those are in the first row, over there. We have several kinds of eating apples, too.
Louise : Good, we'll have to come back and ask you about those when we fill these baskets.
Jim : Could I borrow one of these apple pickers?
Mrs. Salgado : Be careful. Do you know how to use it?

Jim shows the lady how he can handle the long pole and operate the handle that closes the scoop.

Mrs. Salgado : Good. Have fun!

The children run ahead and Louise carries the empty baskets.
