Time to Cook Dinner

Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.

[Chicken]Louise unlocks the back door for herself and her daughter Becky. They are chatting.

Louise : Maybe you'd like to help make dinner tonight, Becky. You said you'd like to do some cooking soon.
Becky : Aw, mom, do I have to? I want to play with my toys.
Louise : Alright, but come and set the table when dinner's almost ready.
Becky : Ok, you tell me when. (Becky runs upstairs.)

Louise opens a cookbook and turns to the recipe for chicken pot pie. She turns on the radio and gets the ball of pie dough she made this morning out of the fridge. She also pulls out the leftover chicken pieces, some carrots and zucchini, the milk and butter. From a cupboard she takes out an onion and a can of mushroom soup. While she slices the onion, her son Jim comes into the house.

Louise : (turning towards Jim) Hi there. Did you have fun playing at Mark's house?
Jim : Yeah, we played Ping-Pong in his basement.
Louise : Good. Now you should start your homework.
Jim : That's what I'm about to do, mom. What's for dinner? I'm getting hungry.
Louise : (dicing the chicken) We're having chicken pot pie in about an hour.
Jim : Yum!

[Peeling carrots]Louise starts to peel and slice carrots while Jim heads up to his room. She heats the ingredients for the filling and rolls out the dough. After she assembles the pie, she puts it in the oven and starts a salad.
Louise : Becky, time to set the table!
Becky : Coming.

Becky gets up on a stool to reach the plates and glasses. She sets napkins and silverware at each place. Mmm, that pie smells good, she thinks.
