Done with Work?

[Pre-reading]

Wednesday, 11 p.m.

John, a waiter at the Half Moon Café, has the job of closing up tonight. It's not a job that he relishes, but somebody has to put all the perishable foods away in the refrigerator and clean up. When he is finally done he shuts off the lights and leaves, locking the back door behind him.

[Bicycle]The night is already dark. John gets on his bicycle. Fortunately, he has his bike lights with him, but he lacks gloves. Brrr, he shivers in the cold air. As he turns onto his street, he nearly runs over a cat.

John : Better watch out, kitty![Listen]

The last block up to the house where he rents his rooms is the steepest. He arrives at the back door, panting. He locks his bike to the railing by the back steps.

[Messy Room]Not until he gets inside does he remember that he has no coffee for tomorrow and not even a crumb of bread. Not only that, but there's a huge pile of dirty dishes by the bed.

John : Great, I come home tired from work, and now this![Listen]

As he looks around the room, he tries to be objective about the paintings hung on the walls and leaning against the desk. He painted every one of them.
