The "book" that is accessible from the "Carl's Walk" episode is the first couple of pages of Chapter 1 of A Study in Scarlet, published in 1887 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I obtained the text from the Sherlock Holmes on disc! CD-ROM, © 1984 Creative Multimedia Corporation. Their copyright notice stated they were publishing the complete Sherlock Holmes stories " by arrangement with Dame Jean Conan Doyle."

The punch recipe that is accessible from the "Party" episode comes from pp. 45-46 of Joy of Cooking, Vol. 2, by Irma S. Rombauer and Marion Rombauer Becker, © 1964.
